There is this theory that eavesdroppers never hear good of themselves or in my case cats who lurk behind sofas half listening will often get hold of the wrong end of the stick!
The humans had some of their chums around the other day, drinks, nibbles, some noisy sporting event on the television (football I think - there were lots of histrionic overpaid prima donnas falling about all over the place anyway!).
I was dozing behind the sofa trying to keep out of the way of one of the kids who thinks it is a good idea to pull my tail when no one is looking. So there I am semi-dozing when suddenly I am wide awake! They are discussing me! Eek!
Conversation went along these lines ...
'Yes, he's been behaving very badly'
'Yup - totally out of control'
'He even bit someone the other day'.
Huh? I was only playing around! Only a small nibble. Nothing serious.
'Probably does not suit him living in a town - perhaps he would be better in a animal sanctuary?'.
Animal sanctuary ... me?!?!
'Or perhaps find a farm somewhere with more room for him to roam?'.
'Have to hope that someone will take him on!'
Take me on! What's that all about? I don't need taking on.
Eek! I'm worried now. I may not be the ideal pet cat, I've got far too much attitude for that but giving me away? They cannot be serious ... surely.
Hmmm ... now they are talking about football. I want to know what's happening to me!
Grrr ... two more hours of waffle and no more discussion about the sneaky plans to get rid of me. It's like it does not really matter that much to anyone. It matters to me though! Hah, the visitors are leaving, perhaps now I'll hear more.
I casually slide into the hallway and listen to the parting words from the visitors.
'Bye everyone, bye Oscar! We'll let you know if our neighbours manage to find a new home for that troublesome old goat!'
YAY! It was all a misunderstanding. I knew it was all the time. I mean - they would never want to get rid of me. I'm Oscar and they love me really .... I know they do. Even when I've just knocked over a plant pot! :p
